Sustainable and Green Building

Energy-efficient, environmentally responsible construction, with the running cost of the building treated as part of the design.

A building's footprint is mostly the years after it is finished

Embrace eco-friendly living with our sustainable and green building solutions. We design and construct homes that are energy-efficient and environmentally responsible, helping you reduce your carbon footprint and enjoy long-term savings on energy costs. Zenith's sustainability work extends past the houses it builds. The company also offers design, analysis and feasibility work for solar photovoltaic systems, building design reviews aimed at high-performance optimization, sustainability program development, waste and water management assessments, and financing strategies and financial analysis. It runs training as well, from introductory sessions to multi-day intensive courses leading to certifications for green building and energy professionals. That combination matters when reading anything on this page, because it means the sustainability position is not a marketing layer applied to a construction business. The same expanded-polystyrene core that gives the Composite Blocking System its structural behaviour is also the building's insulation, which is the plainest possible example of the principle these services are built around: the best-performing part of a building is usually the part doing more than one job.

Where the biggest savings actually sit

Not in any single product. In the envelope, in the orientation, and in the decisions made before anything is bought. A design review early enough to change the building costs a fraction of an equipment upgrade later and does considerably more, which is why Zenith offers the review as a service in its own right rather than only as part of a build.

Zenith also runs certification-track training for green building and energy professionals.

The insulation is the structure

In a conventional wall, insulation is something placed into a cavity that the structure created. It can be compressed, interrupted by framing, installed badly, or omitted around a difficult junction, and none of that is visible once the wall is closed. In a Composite Blocking System wall the expanded-polystyrene core is the structural member, so there is no cavity to fill, no framing to bridge it and no junction where it quietly stops. Thermal performance stops being an installation quality question and becomes a property of the shell.
